Happy Friday to you all. I’ve got a dandy to discuss today so let’s not delay any longer.
A California man is suing a Las Vegas casino because, he says, he was too drunk to be gambling and he should not be responsible for the $500,000 he lost over a seventeen hour period just before the Super Bowl.
I’ll let you read that last sentence again before we continue.
The Nevada Gaming Commission is investigating. Evidently there is a law that states casinos should not allow customers to gamble when they are too intoxicated to make wise decisions, so this case actually has some legs to it.
Where oh where should I begin?
I am so tired of this lawsuit mentality that we have in this country. Hell, nobody is responsible for anything anymore. Here is a guy who obviously does not understand the concept of responsible drinking….who obviously does not understand the concept of “responsible gambling”….and who does not understand the basic principles of responsibility in general…and his reaction to all of this is to blame someone else for his losses.
No, I do not think the casino should allow drunk patrons to gamble. There has to be some responsibility on the part of the casino….but….
Maybe this gentleman should have saved about $50,000 of that money and paid for an in-patient alcohol treatment program, or an in-patient gambling treatment program. Just a thought.
Personally, and this is just me….I would be so embarrassed by this whole incident that I would never utter a word about it to anyone, let alone allow it to become public news.
Am I the only one who sees this as absolutely ridiculous?
Have a great weekend.
Bill
Brings new meaning to we are a sue happy country indeed. seriously, no words and with you on this. Our society definitely leaves a lot to be desired and this proves that yet again there is just a lot of crazy people out there. Happy Friday Bill and keep smiling!! 🙂
Janine, I’m just blown away by stories like this one. I am speechless and I thank the heavens I was raised with some common sense.
Thank you my dear; have a great weekend.
Unbelievable! Just as ridiculous as the woman who sued McDonald’s when she spilled a cup of hot coffee on her lap while driving. Sheesh!
Sha, that’s the first thing I thought of. We need to pass laws to protect people from themselves????
There are no words for this one my friend. I mean really if you can gamble and loose $500,000 in just 17 hrs and then blame the casino, then you are truly a looser in more ways than one. Wow maybe I should have gone to law school instead of teaching. Let’s see 1/3 of $500,000. Just saying. Have a great weekend Bill.
Larry, this one blew me away. Brings new meaning to the word “victim”, doesn’t it?
Thanks buddy and welcome back to the realities of Michigan. 🙂
Do ya ever feel like we’re self-destructing? LOL. And next, there will be someone suing the car companies because cars pollute and aggravate his asthma. Oh wait…THAT makes more sense than your story above. Haha. Anyways…have a great day, Big Bro. 🙂
Actually that does make more sense and that really worries me. LOL Thanks Cyndi; relax some this weekend and enjoy yourself.
I just heard this story on “Live With Kelly and Michael”. I had to rewind and listen again to make sure I heard the story correctly. Unbelievable! I’ve never been so intoxicated that I didn’t know what I was doing, so I can’t speak intelligently about the subject. But, from my uninformed perspective, I feel like the drunken gambler has the ultimate responsibility. People have different levels of tolerance for alcohol, so how is a casino worker supposed to know when someone is too drunk to gamble? Again, I may be looking at this with a naïve point of view.
Oh Marlene, I don’t think you are being naive at all. The guy claims he blacked out and had no idea what he was doing. Well, I’ve got a little experience with drinking, and I’ve never in my life blacked out for seventeen hours. This is just ridiculous any old way you slice it.
I’ve seen several similar stories where people complained about being “victimized” by casinos because they couldn’t help themselves. Gimme a break.
This one is over the top, Lizzy! I will never understand people like this.
Bill I read about this story in the news and it blows me away.
People should never gamble with what they can’t afford to lose. And might I point out, this ridiculous “I was drunk now give my money back” might fly if the guy was drinking underage but he doesn’t look like no spring chicken to me! Lol
Have a great weekend!
Kelly, I’m happy that I’m not the only one who found this to be unbelievable. Thanks for confirming my sanity. LOL
Maybe everyone should just sue everyone else for emitting carbon dioxide and radiation. This story is wild! One of the commenters at CNN made me laugh with this, “I was too drunk to know I peed on that police car. I’m going to sue the police for parking it there…”
LOL…Alex, I should have thought of that back in my drinking days. Thanks for the laugh and the visit.
I read this news and was laughing out loudly…what do i say, Bill
I guess my silence is enough to say what needs to 🙂
have a good weekend, friend
Ruchira, I think the facts speak for themselves. Thank you and enjoy your weekend.
